I Am A Man - Sanitation Workers March, Memphis, Tennessee 1968

Steve Schapiro

In February 1968, two garbage collectors tragically died while at work and the dispassionate response by the city resulted in the strike and march of all of the cities sanitation workers. The event drew the attention and support of Martin Luther King, which is what brought him to Memphis and sadly led to his assassination outside his motel room just a few weeks later.
