New York Fire, New York, 1962

Jim Marshall (1936 - 2010)

Originally designed in 1958 by Gerald Holtom for the British organization, The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) this symbol quickly spread to the US, and was adopted by the CNVA - The Committee for Non-Violent Action in 1962. The CNVA was based in New York to consolidate protests against nuclear weapons and this is where Jim Marshall first began sighting the symbol scrawled on walls, signs, phone-booths and other public spaces.

This is an estate-stamped, limited edition print.
