The Scream, 1981

Gerald Scarfe

“This drawing symbolises the mood of the album, show and film. The whole piece is a scream – Roger’s scream. One of the key inspirations for the entire project was the pain that Roger experienced growing up without his father, who was killed at Anzio in World War II when he was very young."

"When Alan Parker, the film’s director, saw it he said ‘That’s the fucking poster for the film!’"

This image was used on cinema posters and billboards, concert programmes, and all manner of souvenirs.
