The Grateful Dead, The Human Be In, San Francisco, 1967

Lisa Law

The Grateful Dead appeared at the famous "Human Be In" in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco in January of 1967. Seen as the prelude to the Summer of Love, the Be In was a gathering of writers, poets, musicians and young people that were a part of the burgeoning counter culture movement. Focused on subjects like personal empowerment, ecological awareness and a higher consciousness, speakers like Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg, and many others also appeared.
