David Bowie Lying, Diamond Dogs Cover Outtake, 1974
© Terry O'Neill
David Bowie often enlisted several artists to create his album covers. In this case Terry O'Neill shot the photographs that were then used as inspiration and reference for an entirely separate painting that protrayed a half-man, half-dog creature. The final result was typically edgy and controversial for the record companies, and the album was very well received.
