Norma Jean, Griffith Park

Bruno Bernard

Marilyn Monroe (when she was still Norma Jean) bandages photographer Bruno Bernard's dentist's eye-catching German Shepherd, Rolf in Los Angeles' Griffith Park, circa 1946. This is from The Discovery Series, Bernard of Hollywood's first sitting with the 19-year-old. The resulting photos were instantly placed for a pharmaceutical advertisement and the young Norma Jean realized she had been upstaged by Rolf. She vowed she would never let anyone steal a scene from her again.
