Coretta Scott and Martin Luther King

Stephen Somerstein

Coretta Scott and Martin Luther King in Alabama, circa 1965.

Coretta Scott King played an extremely important role in the civil rights movement, both during her husband's life and after his tragic death. In fact, as she began to take on a more prominent role in the late '60s, she broadened her focus to include women's rights, LGBT rights, economic issues, world peace, and various other causes.
