Paul Saltzman

Paul Saltzman spent a week studying meditation in India with the Beatles while the band was composing many of the songs that would appear on The White Album. This shot of John Lennon looking intensely at the camera lens demonstrates the close access the photographer had, an experience that changed Saltzman's life forever.

"The Beatles opened a door in my psyche. It was a key moment in my life. John was singing 'Tomorrow Never Knows' and as the lyrics sank in I knew they were telling me of a journey I had not yet made - of an internal place that held great love and knowing. (I love this picture for John's intensity - a hallmark of his immense talent.)" - Paul Saltzman
