Syd Barrett, Laying on Car

Mick Rock

Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett rests on the hood of his Pontiac in this black and white shot from 1969, the year he recorded his solo album, The Madcap Laughs.

"We did a few shots outside Syd's Earls Court flat. The Cadillac [sic] Syd is perched on was his. It was a great prop but it didn't work and Syd never drove it or had it repaired and eventually it was towed away. Shortly after this Syd left London and moved back to his mum's home in Cambridge, escaping both the music business and the experimental extremes he had put himself through." - Mick Rock
