Roberto Clemente played 18 seasons for the Pittsburgh Pirates, winning the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1966. He was also known for his charity work in his native Puerto Rico and in other Latin American countries, often delivering baseball supplies and food to them. Sadly, he died in a plane crash on December 31, 1972 while in route to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
