In 1972, David Bowie released an iconic statement of modern popular music. The album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, not only established Bowie as a major musical force, it also provided him with a platform to present a visually fascinating and sexually ambivalent stage persona called Ziggy Stardust.
