Country Joe & The Fish, I Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die

Joel Brodsky

The front cover of Country Joe & The Fish's 1967 album, I Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die. The band's eccentric name appears to be a reference to Chairman Mao's saying about "the fish who swim in the sea of the people." The Country Joe part refers to Joe's parents having named Joe after Joseph Stalin, whose nickname during World War II was "Country Joe."
