Artist | Victoria Smith
| Biography | Victoria Smith was born in upstate New York. She received her first camera in kindergarten, and enjoyed setting up fashion shoots on the playground with the other children. Growing up she was interested in ballet, poetry, music, and walking the creeks and fields of her hometown. When she was old enough to leave home, she began to travel extensively. She made stops in Idaho, Arizona, and ultimately, the Northern California mountains, where she lived the hippie life, making pottery, and enjoying the psychedelic sounds of classic rock and roll bands from the '60s. Eventually Victoria Smith made it to San Francisco, where she studied photography at the Academy of Art. Within a few weeks, and rather randomly, she made friends with The Wallflowers, and in particular, lead singer Jacob Dylan, son of legend Bob Dylan. The band invited her to take photos of them on a short tour. While this didn't happen, she never looked back, making friends with different bands on a regular basis, and taking portraits of them in her bathroom, where the lighting was good. To date, Victoria Smith has captured intimate portraits of many notable celebrities and artists including Coldplay, Andre from Outkast, Gwen Stefani, The Dandy Warhols, The Grateful Dead, Snow Patrol, Tommy Lee, The Hives, The Thrills, Robert Plant, and countless others. Her work has appeared in City, Cool-Eh, Filter, GIG, Guitar Player, Guitar World, Hustler, Ocean Drive, Planet, Rolling Stone, Teen Vogue, Village Voice, and 7x7 magazine. |
