Duane Allman is captured here on stage, standing close to his brother Gregg, as was often the case during their live performances. The Allman Brothers Band had released At Fillmore East a few months prior to this concert, and had been experiencing their first big wave of success all that summer. Jim Marshall met up with the band when they returned to California in October, 1971. He photographed them in Santa Monica and again in San Francisco over a period of several days. Jim Marshall had a very special bond with Duane Allman, and was devastated when he died in a motorcycle accident on October 29, 1971.

Jim Marshall Photography LLC selected this photograph, along with four other Allman Brothers images, to be made available to collectors for the first time in July, 2021. This collection was released as a tribute to the band, who Jim Marshall was close with and photographed on many occasions, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of At Fillmore East, released in July, 1971.
